| Secure Digital Card |
| The 32 mm x 24 mm x 2.1 mm Secure Digital memory card - called SD Card for short - is a development based on the MultiMediaCard (MMC). |

Unlike the MMC, the SD card specification offers the option of saving copyright protected data, 4 times the transfer speed of MMC, a write protection switch and protective measures against static discharges in the card housing. The SD card has nine connection contacts (versus seven for the MultiMediaCard), meaning twice as many data lines as the MMC, which makes possible data transfer rates up to 10 MByte per second.
Due to its somewhat thicker housing in comparison with the MMC, more memory components can be integrated into the SD card, which allows for greater memory capacities. Because the other dimensions are identical to the MMC, MultiMediaCards can always be used in devices that have an SD Card socket. |
