A loud squeaking noise and also a raw scraping coming from the hard drive usually means stock or motor damage. This means: turn off your drive immediately!!!
A defective hard drive motor usually shows itself through two symptoms.
The hard drive doesn't turn on at all. This can also be caused by a defective logic or an incorrect voltage supply.
Uneven spinning of the motor. Often a coil in the motor has failed. With some drives you can then hear a soft whistling or a strong squeaking.
In some cases similar symptoms are caused by a defective stock. Here it is the same case as with defective heads - the use of data recovery software is not possible.
